Mochow was now carefully planning her wedding with the help of her sister. She wanted a modern wedding at the Grand Hotel de Pékin but wanted the usual traditional ceremonies and the usual bridal chamber at home as well. The bride was to wear white and a bridal veil, and she wanted Lifu to appear in foreign dress. Redjade and Ailien were to be the bridesmaids, Sutung and Afei the best men, and Aman the flower-girl. Lilien was to play Mendelssohn's Wedding March. It did seem that Redjade was as excited about the wedding as the bride herself. She looked so resplendent that day that it elicited a great deal of talk about her and Afei. After the wedding the new couple were to have a suite of rooms in the hotel for the night. The bride would then presently go with her husband to Japan, where he was to study.
