One day was all it took for Marquez to find a reason to have it in for me. One measly day for me to blow it completely! Our English teacher, Mrs. Schaeffer, was explaining to us that the past perfect generally referred to a bygone past with no relationship to the present, both finite and perfectly identifiable in time. No big deal.
